For an expert in digital photography who is also a devotee of nature, architecture and cultural heritage we built a download system. Visitors of his website can now download free panoramic photos and 3D-photos. The download system had to meet three important conditions: each visitor should have the possibility to download photos quickly and in a stable manner, free of charge and the total fees for the data exchange should not cost the photographer more than € 1.000 per year. We designed a download management system that uses a combination of techniques. Photographs can be downloaded from six permanent servers at different locations. Each time a visitor wants to download a photo the management system quickly determines which server offers the fastest download connection. Subsequently the network load and the data subscription of this server are checked. The model chooses the fastest download connection at the lowest costs. |

From the whole world visitors now download the panoramic photos and 3D-photos of the photographer. To this date visitors downloaded all together more than 142 terabyte of photos.
